Ruins of the early Christian basilica at Chrysopolitissa in Paphos

Pilgrimage Day 3 · Paphos

St Paul in Paphos

Acts 13, an ancient Roman city and the Gospel carried west.

Discover the day

Part of our planned pilgrimage. We are refining this day with clergy, specialist guides and local partners. The spiritual shape is in place; exact timings and arrangements will be confirmed for each departure.

The apostolic heart of the journey

Where a Roman governor heard and believed

Acts tells us that Paul and Barnabas travelled through the whole island before reaching Paphos. Here they encountered the Roman proconsul Sergius Paulus and the mission took a decisive step into the wider Roman world.

At Chrysopolitissa, the remains of a great early Christian basilica surround the church of Agia Kyriaki. Nearby stands the pillar where local tradition remembers Paul suffering for his preaching.

This is a day to hear Acts 13 in its landscape: among columns, mosaics, harbour light and the remains of the city from which Paul sailed onward.

“The proconsul believed, for he was amazed at the teaching about the Lord.” — Acts 13:12
