A day of resurrection hope, ancient Christian beauty and Mediterranean fellowship.

Discover the day

Researched on location. This page is shaped by our own field visit through Larnaca and Kiti—walking the routes, timing the visits and checking the details that matter to real pilgrims.

Lazarus—friend of Christ

A Gospel story you can step into

Christian tradition remembers Lazarus of Bethany—the friend whom Jesus raised from the dead—as Bishop of Kition, ancient Larnaca. The Church of Saint Lazarus stands over his traditional second tomb.

Here, the words of John 11 are no longer distant. Pilgrims descend quietly beneath the church, pause at the tomb and reflect on Christ’s promise: “I am the resurrection and the life.”

Our field visit confirmed what photographs alone cannot convey: the church has a powerful sense of prayer and history. It is an essential part of any Christian journey through Cyprus.

Angeloktisti—“built by angels”

Ancient stone, a remarkable Marian mosaic and shaded gardens create a gentle counterpoint to the busy heart of Larnaca.

What our field visit taught us

Comfortable, meaningful and human

Thoughtful pacing

The main church visit works well in 45–60 minutes, with additional time for the museum, square and old town.

Access considered

Saint Lazarus has steps and a low ceiling around the tomb. The wider church can comfortably accommodate a larger group while the tomb is visited gradually.

Time to breathe

Shade, cafés and rest points around the square help the day feel like a pilgrimage rather than a race between monuments.

Respectful worship

Modest clothing is important. Organised prayer, guiding and church arrangements will be confirmed in advance.
